DENVER AIRPORT (KDEN/DEN)

General Info
Just one terminal but an underground train takes you to the three piers and the many gates. 6 runways, all spread out round the airport - 2 east/west, one to the north and one to the south; 4 north/south runways that are two sets of parallel runways, two just northwest of the piers, two just southeast of the piers. Because of this layout, there is no one place where you will log all movements so pick the best runways to monitor.

Spotting Info
There is a high-rise car park on either side of the terminal. Either side has some views.

Airside Spotting Info
  • An underground train connects the 3 piers though pier A is also connected to the terminal via a bridge over the taxiway. As you walk over the taxiway, you can easily logged all those parked on the southern side of pier A. Whilst walking pier A for the north side gates, you can also see and log the southern side gates of pier B, though pay particular attention to the west side of pier B, as it has an extension for regional jets with 8 gates that can't be seen from either piers A or C. At the eastern end of pier A is the remote parking area mainly used by turboprops. If you want to, you can now travel to pier C, and look south for the north side gates of pier B, therefore cutting out the time taken walking pier B, though as mentioned before, you can't see any regional jets parked on that pier B east extension. From pier C looking north, there are a couple of distant aprons that may be readable if there's anything parked on them. From the west end of pier C you can see the two stored B727s N192FE still in FedEx colours, and N7285U all white and engineless, marked "DIA01". It's the shortest pier in length, and pier B blocks all views southwards so, depending on runway usage, either end of pier B is probably the best place. Gates B91-95 in the far eastern end of the extension allows you to monitor the two 17/35 parallel runways and 08/26 to the north. No problems spotting airside from the piers but keep your binoculars and cameras away went not in use.

  • Suspended from the ceiling in the middle of pier C is N10BD LJ35. Suspended from the ceiling in the west end of pier B near gate B23 is N205Y Eaglerock A-14. Also in pier B near gate B53 is N7628B JN-4 Jenny marked "SC1918".

    Planespotting Hotels
At the Ramada Inn and Suites Hotel, room 223 gives views of the two western parallel runways 16/34s but you need SBS to identify anything landing or taking off on them. Anything landing or taking off on the nearer 07/25 runway goes straight over the hotel and can be read off.
The Ramada Inn and Suites Hotel features on for reviews, prices and room availability
