Spotting Info around the Terminal
Off J28 M8, these viewing spots are marked in the Spotting in the UK download.
  • The crash gate directly behind the Loganair hangar on St.Andrews Crescent (off to the left as you enter the airport terminal one way system) is good for photos of movements on 05 but there is no parking here so no good if you have a car. In front of their hangar is the Loganair staff car park and they won't like you parking there, but the car park on the other side of the road is fine and you have good views across the apron.
  • You can't drive round the Business Aviation Centre (also known as Area J) on the east side but Abbotsinch Road runs right past it and with two crash gates, one at either end, you should be able to read most off. Do not go into their car park. You can walk here from the terminal, it should take around 10-12 minutes - just cut through cargo and follow the roads round to it.
  • Campsite Drive runs parallel to Abbotsinch Road and thus runs behind the eastside hangars giving good views of the aprons. There are no views from inside the terminal landside, but once airside there are windows at the gates to watch the movements.

Spotting Info away from the Terminal
  • The crash gate on the northeast part of the airport on Abbotsinch Road near threshold of 23 (do not park in front of gate) for great views and photos of arrivals on 23.
  • Continue past the crash gate above and turn left at the T-junction onto the A8. Just up on the right is a lay-by to park in - you're almost right under the approach and so is excellent for arrivals on runway 23.
  • The crash gate close to the end of 05 on Barnsford Road is also excellent for photos of arrivals on 05. Please park well clear of the crash gates.
  • North perimeter fence between flying club and East Yonderton Farm on Walkinshaw Road for views of both runways and terminal area. Be very careful about where you park as this is a narrow lane - you must not park alongside the perimeter fence under any circumstances, you will be moved on by security or handed an on the spot fine by the police. You can park on the other side but be careful how you park as it's private land and there are signs at certain points prohibiting you from parking on the verge.

Planespotting Hotels - its location is marked in the Spotting in the UK download
  • The Holiday Inn is the closest hotel here with a view. Rooms on the 8th or 9th floor on the front of the building look out across the terminal, and arrivals and departures can be seen. If you're at the south end of the building, there are partial views over the international ramp.
The Holiday Inn features on for reviews, prices and room availability

  • The Normandy Hotel is just northeast of Glasgow airport, and alongside the river. When they are landing on runway 23 they pass behind the hotel - standing behind the hotel gives a good view of arrivals and you are one minute drive from the lay-by on the A8 Greenock Road underneath the runway 23 approach.
The Normandy Hotel features on for reviews, prices and room availability

Glasgow Airport Logs, Fly Glasgow Direct, Glasgow Airport Information. There is a letter from the airport police here and it is very encouraging that the authorities would take the time to drive round the airport looking at all the vantage points. Inside the terminal, viewing can be done by the entrance to the domestic gates.
