SOFIA AIRPORT (LBSF/SOF)

Spotting Info
On arrival there are a few windows inside that offer views before you go landside. When departing, the apron in front of the terminal can also be seen, as well as stuff that taxis to Terminal 2. Terminal 2 landside there are no views. To the left hand side there is a parking area which gives views along one side of the pier. Between the two terminals are some hangars with a number of aircraft on the ramp and two An-24s on the rough ground. Most can be read off from the fences nearby. To the city side of the airport, past the VIP terminal, 3 Yak40s and an An-12 are stored - again all easily readable. From this area you can also read off many of the aircraft on the far side including most of the Bulgarian AF transports. There are also a number of civil aircraft in this area. Drive into the ex-military area in the nooks and crannies to see the 6 stored Mi-2s plus a number of other aircraft. No problems with spotting at this airport. There is a free shuttle bus between the two terminals but no signs or bus stops to help you out. Be aware there are many illegal taxis trying to get your business, but you're just as likely to get ripped off by an official taxi.
