NORTH DENES HELIPORT - A/G 123.4

Spotting Info
Just north of Great Yarmouth off A149. As you leave the town, you go past a golf course and you'll then be able to see into their hangars if they're open. You will see a narrow concrete track with roughly yellow painted poles with CHC Scotia on a notice. Turn down here and follow the track around the side of the airfield. As you go down this road anything on the small ramp can be read off. If you go right past the back of the hangars into a car park you can look back on to the apron. Head inside the terminal and if you ask politely at the check-in desk if any helicopters are due in they should let you know what is due in and when.

NORWICH AIRPORT - TWR 124.25, APP 119.35

Terminal and Cargo Area Spotting Info
In the north of Norwich city off the A140 and signposted. At the terminal there is a short-term car park (10 minutes free, £1 for 30 mins), however if you drive past the terminal and then turn the corner, there are a number of free parking spaces for 30 mins. This will allow you time to go into the terminal, where extensive views of the apron are possible, as well as the Sprayavia hangar. There is also a grassed area to the left of the terminal. Next, return to the A140, turn left and stay in the left lane to take the next left onto Fifers Lane, signposted Air Freight. At the next set of lights turn left signposted Air Freight and turning left again at the back of Sprayavia's hangar brings you out to views of the apron. You will be able to see most aircraft parked on the ramp, anything parked in front of the KLM hangars and any Bristow helicopters that aren't hidden.

A message from Special Branch at Norwich - they have asked for you all to be advised if seen filming or photographing in the vicinity of the fence outside Sprayavia you may be taken to the terminal for questioning, which will be in depth and last over an hour. If seen elsewhere around the airfield, you will not be taken to the terminal but you are likely to be questioned about your activities. This is purely procedure, they are happy for us to go about our hobby, and you will be allowed to continue after they have finished.

Watching Movements & Photography
From the freight area above, return to Fifers Lane and turn left. After a number of pedestrian lights and a roundabout, the road turns sharp right. Turn left here onto St. Faith's Road into a 20mph zone and continue until you reach a cemetery on the left. Park sensibly just beyond the cemetry, well clear of the crash gate. There are lay-bys and grass verges to use. Excellent views of the aircraft taking off and landing, just be wary of the security. Even if you are doing nothing wrong they have been known to cause problems.

West Side Flying Clubs
Exit the terminal via the main entrance traffic lights and turn right. Take the next right (ignoring the slip road to the car park) and this will take you to the various flying clubs GA area. Ask in each building for access - Sterling, Anglian and Norwich School of Flying are along here and are all very friendly. From here you get views across to the terminal apron, Sprayavia, KLM and Bristows.

Northern Storage Area & City of Norwich Aviation Museum
The main storage area is in the northwestern part of the airport, just west of the museum. Heading north on the A140 past the flying schools on the right, pull in to the large lay-by on the right for views of the storage area. For the City of Norwich Aviation Museum, continue north on the A140, straight over the roundabout (2nd exit) and take the first right. Then take the third right (at the second triangle junction) onto Old Norwich Road and follow to the end. Presumably it's also well signposted. Open 1000-1600 during the winter months, 1000-1700 in the summer, with Sundays and Bank Holidays 1100-1500 and 1200-1700 respectively. Entrance is £4.25. As you head towards the museum, keep looking left for N5880T WG-30 sat high on a mock helipad from an oil rig as a training aid. The museum has fine views over the airfield and the Aviation Centre has a first floor bar with views over the movements and main light aircraft park and hangar. The storage area can be seen best from the museum area.

TIBENHAM AIRFIELD - TWR 129.975

Spotting Info
Head east out of village and airfield is on right. For entrance take next right after airfield. One big hangar and a smaller adjacent hangar house the fixed wing aircraft, with the gliders in various buildings. As you pass the first hangar on the right, on the right before the larger main hangar, and set back behind these hangars, is a small building housing the recently restored DH82. Ask in the clubhouse for access, friendly. And please make sure you do ask. There have been reports in the recent past of spotters wandering around without having asked permission and this clearly and understandably upset the airfield owners.
