WK122 Canberra nose is preserved in a field next to a house south of Chipperfield village. Head out of Common Wood village and turn left on the sharp right bend. Follow the road round to the left and the Canberra is on the left before the house and the sharp left bend. Last reported November 2009

BENINGTON-WHITEHALL FARM AIRFIELD

Head east out of Aston, towards Benington, go over the river and turn right at the crossroads shortly after. After 2 fields turn left in to Whitehall Farm and follow the track to the left of the house and round to the strip.

ELSTREE AIRFIELD - TWR 122.4
Spotting Info
Take the A411 west out of Elstree town and take the first right down Aldenham Road, signed towards the country park. Take the second left and then turn right on a left bend. The airfield is signposted. Friendly, ask in the control room for access. It should be granted for you to walk out amongst the residents but they ask you not to go in the hangars. When you get to the hangars, if someone is in there, you can ask them for permission to enter, it's often granted as long as you don't touch anything. There are aircraft parked in a dip just beyond the main taxiway but before the runway. You may, or may not be allowed to walk down to the dip but they can be logged from various points during your walk around. The large main hangar has two parts to it. The smaller west part holds helicopters and the doors are sometimes open - on your right as you drive in. The larger east section holds the resident light aircraft.

GRAVELEY-GRAVELEY HALL FARM AIRFIELD
Spotting Info
Head north on B197 into Graveley. Turn right onto Church Lane and after about half a mile turn left into farm strip. Friendly, ask for access. There are hangars at either end of the runway with a track running between them away from the runway, all of which are accessible if open and someone is present.

HUNSDON AIRFIELD

From the A414 North West of Harlow take the B180 to Hunsdon, just before the village the former WW11 airfield is on the right. The microlights operate from the Northern end of the former airfield. There are several entrances onto the airfield near the town. Friendly reception, some have been granted access to freely wander, others to wander around the spectators' area, though everything can easily be seen from there.

LONDON COLNEY AIRFIELD - TWR 129.825

The Airfield is located behind the Moquito Museum just south of junction 22 on the M25 Motorway. When you take the slip road to the roundabout head for South Mimms, go just beyond the Mosquito Museum entrance and turn right onto a narrow road/path through a metal gate. You follow this, keeping the Museum on your right and follow the road around the back. Turn left and keep going until you come to the wind-sock on your right. If all is clear and the gate is open drive on the right hand side of the main runway, they are based at the junction of both the runways.

LONDON COLNEY-de HAVILLAND HERITAGE MUSEUM

Off M25 J22, at the roundabout take the 4th exit and follow the signs. Round the back of the toilet block, there are some more exhibits stored externally in the staff car park. Open from the first Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays it's open from 1400-1730 with Sundays and Bank Holidays open from 1030-1730. Admission is £6 for adults and £3 for children.

NEWNHAM nr BALDOCK AIRFIELD

Exit A1(M) at J10, take A507 south towards Baldock and just after the services turn left onto Newnham Road. Once in Newnham, turn right onto Ashwell Road and turn right onto a farm track after 200m. Follow to end for strip.

NUTHAMPSTEAD AIRFIELD

Proceed east out of village to end of road. Continue along dirt track, which goes right then left. Turn immediately right up track - this leads to end of grass runway. I assume you proceed along the edge of the strip but there are no signs to indicate that. Hangar could be seen in far distance. Is this the entrance?

PANSHANGER AIRFIELD - TWR 120.25
Spotting Info
East of Welwyn Garden City on B1000, airfield is well signposted. Alternatively, on the A414 between Hatfield and Hertford there is a roundabout where the A414 meets the B195. Go east from this roundabout and turn left into Panshanger Lane (about 100 yards). Go along Panshanger Lane and the entrance to the field is about half a mile along here on the west (left) side. Most aircraft can be logged from the fence, but don't ask for access, the owner is very unfriendly. Just west of the parking area is a housing estate which will give you a different angle on what's parked up and may help you log those you've missed and any parked alongside the hangar but it's not quick to get there. Turn right out of the entrance onto Panshangar Lane and right onto the A414 at the end. At the roundabout turn right onto the B195 and right again at the next roundabout onto Sylvan Way. Straight over two roundabouts and right at the third. Straight over the next two roundabouts, follow the road round to the right and continue to the end for views.

Spotting Info
Head north on the B656 out of Langley village and it's about a mile on the right. Friendly, but you must ask for access first. They are cautious due to previous run ins with gypsies and travellers trying to get onto the airfield and as such are wary of visitors.

St. ALBANS-PLAISTOWS FARM AIRFIELD - TWR 129.825
Spotting Info
Come off M25 at J21A and head north on A405. At the next crossroads, before the roundabout, turn left onto Noke Lane. Road winds around for about a mile, then after a sharp right bend you'll run straight along the eastern perimeter. Turn left at the triangle junction and the microlight strip is on the left. Three main hangars plus lots of individual hangars - these are often locked but you can log a few through the gaps, check them all. Ask the owner, very friendly. If no one is around at the strip you can ask at the house but only during sociable hours please - they are friendly and you should be allowed to log what's parked outside and in the open barn. Better to visit at weekends when it's busy as access usually only to those hangars that are already open. To the right of the car park and behind the main hangar are the derelict N13253 C172 fuselage, N7263S C150 and the bare metal C150s G-AZZX and G-BPUY.
