ASHCROFT AIRFIELD (EGCR)

Spotting Info
Head south out of Winsford town on the B5074. Take the fourth right turn onto Darnhall School Lane and follow until a sharp left bend. Shortly after this, turn right onto Hall Lane, follow the road over a stream (which is on a fairly sharp right hand bend), then through a sharp right, then left hand bend and then take the next right for the airfield. Ask for access, the owner is friendly. One large main hangar, with possible an individual hangar nearby. A very short drive up the track looks like another individual hangar, and with it's own runway, appearing fenced off from the main airfield area. If you carry on up the track, you'll drive alongside the runway to Winsford-Ashcroft Farm strip, full details below.

HOOTON PARK-THE AEROPLANE COLLECTION

Spotting Info
Exit the M53 at J6, turn right at the roundabout onto South Road and it's on the left and signposted. The Hooton Park Trust has agreed to let Dave Arkle run pre-booked guided tours of this very private site once a month on a Sunday morning, usually the first Sunday of each month but you'll need to check this, and check there's room on the tour. The tour lasts about an hour, it's very popular and well worth it. No cost but donations are encouraged. As most of the stored airframes are privately owned we are reliant on the generosity of the owners allowing us access. Please respect this and offer Dave every courtesy for running these tours. If you wish to book a tour please either email Dave or if you prefer, phone on 0161 969 2697.

SANDBACH-ARCLID GREEN AIRFIELD

Spotting Info
Exit the M6 at J17 and head east on the A534 to Congleton. The road winds around for a bit, then at the bottom of the valley turn right down Hemmingshaw Lane, signed to an industrial estate. Ignore the left fork and carry straight on for a couple of minutes. Rough track with potholes takes you straight to the strip. Friendly, ask for access. If there's no one there, all inmates of the hangar can be easily read off through gaps in doors and the big gap at the bottom.

Take care as you drive through the farm to the strip, it's the home of two Rottweilers that attack cars on the drive and enjoy crunching plastic wing mirrors.
